Keratin treatment or how to repair your hair

Keratin

Women with damaged hair desperately want to regain shine and nutrition ... An ideal more so unattainable since the advent of keratin treatments. This protein naturally present in the hair fiber helps protect and strengthen the hair. But how does it work and which treatment to choose? We tell you everything.

WHAT IS KERATIN?

Keratin is a fundamental protein of the surface layer of the epidermis and of the skin appendages (nails, body hair, hair). It has a protective role and fights against external aggressions such as UV rays. Shine, suppleness, strength… keratin are essential for the good health of the hair fiber. This is why it is important to "re-inject" it into the hair when it is lacking.

THE BENEFITS OF A KERATIN TREATMENT ON THE HAIR

Since keratin is a component of our hair, it is essential to preserve it. Hair expert Céline Dupuy explains: "When they are weakened with sweeps, colors, repeated drying, the passage of heating plates, it removes the protective layer that is keratin. "

Thanks to keratin treatment, the hair is coated with this protein. We protect it, we sheath it so that it regains shine and texture. They are easier to comb, shinier, more nourished. “We can completely repair them thanks to that”, explains Céline Dupuy.

KERATIN TREATMENT: FOR WHICH TYPE OF HAIR

A keratin treatment will be a real comfort for all damaged or naturally dry hair (such as frizzy and frizzy hair). The only people who will not be specially advised are those with naturally straight hair and in excellent health.

THE DIFFERENT KERATIN TREATMENTS IN THE INSTITUTE

There are several kinds of keratin treatments. Among the best known, we can mention Brazilian smoothing and hair botox. To determine which method is most suitable, a visit to an institute or a hairdressing salon is mandatory. Yes, a keratin treatment is also on a case-by-case basis.

-Brazilian straightening: The hair is considerably relaxed, shiny and the hair fiber-reinforced thanks to a deep “injection” of keratin. We remove the frizz and make the curls softer, but the goal is not to straighten the hair as with Japanese straightening (much stronger and therefore more aggressive). This treatment is an investment because it lasts a long time (4 to 6 months) and deeply repairs the hair.

-Hair botox: It is a rejuvenation for the hair composed of keratin but also hyaluronic acid. It is easier to do and less expensive than Brazilian straightening. But also less nourishing and of less duration (6 to 8 weeks). This is a more "light" version of the keratin treatment. The goal is to strengthen the fiber without necessarily smoothing the hair. With an oily scalp, start the botox 5-6cm below the roots so as not to choke the pores. "For very sensitized hair, this treatment is recommended at least every three months", explains the hair expert.

To optimize the benefits of these two techniques and maintain the hair at home, it will be necessary to wash it with a sulfate-free shampoo.

KERATIN TREATMENT OR HOW TO REPAIR YOU HAIR

HOME CARE WITH KERATIN

There are several kits sold on the market that allow you to have, if not the expertise of a professional, at least a way to do a touch-up at home. We can do this kind of treatment at home after a few months to continue and strengthen the effects of keratin on our hair. Once passed through expert hands, we will know more about how to apply it.

Also, more and more beauty products (shampoo, mask, etc.) are formulated with keratin. A word of advice: it is better to take breaks without any keratin product. If we use too much regularly, our hair can become addicted.
